In a conference for the largest buyer-filed commission cases today, Judge LaShonda Hunt of the Northern District of Illinois, who only recently took over the complex litigation after the previous judge recused herself last month, said she would stay proceedings against Keller Williams, Anywhere and RE/MAX pending an appeals court ruling in the seller cases.
IT’s a great big attempt to create class action benefits from folks that had no real harm. There is no way to measure if transactions resulted in higher prices because of the amount of demand created via buyer agency. It’s just too bad that this attempt to wipe out buyer agency and transparent compensation paid by sellers, may in the end mean more buyers are taken advantage of financially in their purchase of their first or subsequent home. These rulings definitely will not result in lower prices for buyers, who are likely to pay more for inspections, insurance, title services in addition to the home itself.
