Can Gutter Guards Raise Your Home’s Value?

Installing gutter guards can reduce the amount of time and money you spend on maintenance and repairs while you own your house. If you choose to sell your home in the future, gutter guards can make the property more appealing to potential buyers and raise its value.

How Gutter Guards Can Help You Avoid Problems and Save Money
Gutter guards come in several forms, but they’re all designed to reduce the amount of debris that finds its way into gutters. Keeping leaves, twigs and pine needles out of gutters means less cleaning is required. Gutter guards can also keep birds and rodents from building nests inside gutters.

When gutters get clogged, water can’t easily flow through them like it should. If water backs up, the roof and insulation can suffer moisture damage. Water that flows over the sides of the gutters can collect in puddles on the ground, where it can attract mosquitoes, leak into the basement and damage the foundation. Installing gutter guards can prevent these sorts of problems.

Clogged gutters can become rusted and damaged. The weight of wet leaves and other debris can cause gutters to sag. Gutters that wear out prematurely will have to be replaced, which can be expensive. Installing gutter guards is a simple and effective way to extend the lifespan of your gutters and save money in the long run.

How Gutter Guards Can Increase Your Property’s Value
Home improvements that prevent problems and/or reduce maintenance requirements can pay off if you put your house on the market in the coming years. Savvy buyers aren’t just thinking about how much it will cost to purchase a home. They’re also considering the total cost of ownership. They’re looking for a house that won’t cost a lot of time and money to maintain and that won’t need expensive repairs.

Gutters without guards require frequent cleaning. That can be a hassle for DIYers, and hiring contractors can be costly. Repairing water damage to the roof, basement, foundation or landscaping can strain homeowners’ budgets.

Installing gutter guards can prevent a long list of issues and give buyers peace of mind. They’ll be more inclined to purchase your house if they’re confident that they won’t have to worry about frequent maintenance, clogged gutters and water damage.

Curb appeal is another important factor for homebuyers. Sagging gutters can immediately create a negative impression in the minds of potential buyers, while gutter guards can give buyers a positive impression. If they like the look of your home’s exterior, they’ll most likely want to come inside and see more.
