Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Scott Turner said on Feb. 27 that he would work to reduce regulatory burdens to ease America’s housing affordability crisis and help builders to construct more attainable, affordable housing the nation sorely needs.
It’s the local regulations from the anti development NIMBY’s (not in my back yard) causing the lack of building and development. The town and County near me are reneging on development plans and zoning in order to stop projects already approved by a previous administration. Political pressure from NIMBY’s is intense. EPA and state regulations drive up the cost of construction through mandates of unnecessary or over burdening standards. EV charging stations in every house, sprinkler systems in houses without public water, storm water mgt. system overkill.
