If you’re heading out on vacation, your mind is likely littered with to-dos. And while dropping your dog off at a boarding kennel is a great way to make sure they will have the attention they need, you should take a few steps so they’re properly prepped for their staycation.
Two Weeks Before
Vaccinate! Most kennels won’t accept your dog if they aren’t up on their vaccinations, so be sure to double check with your boarding house about what they require well in advance.
Paperwork, please. If possible, request all paperwork from your kennel and fill it out well in advance, so you will have the proper time to pore over details. This way, the drop off day will be that much easier.
Two Days Before
Pile up on food. Most kennels request your dog’s specific food brand so they don’t’ undergo any major dietary changes. Make sure you have enough on hand.
Pack a bag. To help your dog feel comfortable, pack a bag with your dog’s favorite treats, toys and a familiar blanket or bed so they have a bit of home with them on their stay.
Day Of
Exercise your pup. Go on a nice long walk, hit the doggie park or take the ball to the yard so that your dog arrives at the kennel well stimulated and as calm as possible.
