Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12. If you haven’t yet made plans, now is the time to cross that off your list. Restaurants regularly get booked up on this day, so reserve as soon as you can—same goes for spas and wine tours so don’t leave the planning to the last minute. If you’re still unsure how to celebrate the woman who gave you life, here are a few solid ideas.
Make it a spa day. Pampering is something everyone loves, but moms rarely have time (or extra money) for. They’ll love it not just because they finally get the chance to relax, but they will love the chance to spend the day with you, doing some bonding that you don’t regularly get to do together.
Take her to her favourite restaurant. While you might not love Swiss Chalet or Olive Garden as much as she does, remember this day is about her. Maybe that five star reviewed restaurant is excellent, but she just wants something she knows she loves. Let her decide where she wants to go—and if she asks you to choose, you should know what her favourite restaurant is by now, so choose that one, even if you’d rather go somewhere different.
Take a task or three off her to-do list. Moms are busy balancing more than we ever truly realize, and they rarely get the credit for it. If she regularly makes dinner or cleans the house, make sure you take care of those tasks for the day (or the week, if you really want to lift her spirits).
Give her the day to herself. This is especially important if the mom you are celebrating currently has young kids. The best gift you can give a busy mom is the gift of nothing at all. No responsibilities for the day. Take the kids to the park, the movies and dinner—and let her have the day to herself to do whatever she wants without interruption.
