Summertime Selling: Tips to Get Market Ready

Summer is often a great time to put your home on the market, as people are looking to get in a new home before the next school year begins, and thanks to vacations, people have more time to look for a new place to live.

Still, summer is a time when many families go away, and people set aside weekends for trips to the beach and backyard barbecues, so it also could limit the number of house hunters that come by.

Here are some tricks of the trade for finding the right buyer for your house during the summer.

Outside the Home
Grass grows quickly during the summer, and so do weeds, so be vigilant about mowing your lawn. Once a week may not be enough, so consider doing it every five days. Also, take extra care of gardens and flower beds. And if you have kids, make sure their bicycles and outdoor toys are stored during visits.

A deck should always be highlighted and a good start is to power-wash it or add a new coat of paint. Also, check the deck’s surface and remove any old screws or nails sticking out and replace them with cleaner looking galvanized decking screws.

Cleaning Tips
Ceiling fans are busy during the summer, which can lead to them collecting lots of unsightly dust. Dust them regularly, and take advantage of cleaning tools that make this chore easier. Also pay close attention to your windows. With the sun shining, fingerprints and smudges will be very visible.

During the summer, people tend to enter and exit the home often, especially if you have a pool. That means there’s more potential for dirt and debris entering the home. Vacuum regularly, maybe even every day, and make sure entryways to your home are clean and organized.

Set the Scene
Let’s say it’s a hot summer day and potential buyers are visiting your home. A cool, comfortable environment will make your house feel like paradise. Set the air conditioning at a comfortable level, one that will bring relief to visitors, but doesn’t make it freezing. Also, have some summertime refreshments ready. Cold water with lemon, iced tea and lemonade will be much appreciated. For snacks, go with lighter fare: fruits, veggies and dips, and cheese and crackers are great options.

These steps can make your home a star for people who are home seeking during the summer.
