Myth: Food poisoning is not that bad.
Fact: Some foodborne illnesses can lead to serious health problems or even death.
Myth: It’s safe to thaw meat on the counter.
Fact: Bacteria grow rapidly at room temperatures. Instead, thaw food in the refrigerator, cold water or the microwave.
Myth: You don’t need to wash fruits or vegetables if you’re going to peel them.
Fact: It’s easy to transfer bacteria from the peel to the insides, so always wash produce.
Myth: Leftovers are safe until they start stinking.
Fact:Â Food with dangerous bacteria may not smell, look or taste different. Freeze or toss leftovers after a couple of days.
