Between politics, world news and an industry filled to the brim with distractions right now, I wanted to take a moment to share some quick thoughts on the difference between a thermometer and a thermostat. A thermometer, as you know, takes its cues from the outside world. Bring it into a room and it will let the room determine what the temperature will be. A thermostat, on the other hand, does the opposite. It sets the mood for the room. It says, here’s what the temperature is going to be. (Well, if it could speak, that’s what it would say!)
Which do you want to be? It’s a good question to ask yourself in our world. Do you want to react to what’s going on around you or set the tone for what you’ll allow in your life, your mind, your business, your relationships? For me, I’m all thermostat at this point in my life. I’m going to set my temperature for joy, and happiness and good things to come into my life. Anyone who wants to rain on that parade can head the other way. Who’s got time for negativity anyway?
Be vigilant. Listen, your thermostat is yours. Guard that baby. Put a lock on it if you have to. If someone wants to turn up your heat or ice you out, say, “Nope! Not today!” Because, here’s the thing friends…if you don’t guard your temperature or the conditions in which you live and work, someone else will. And you’re not guaranteed they have your best interest at heart.
Stay cool. Hope you’re having a holiday season so far and I hope you’re the keeper of your own temperature. Set it for happy. Set it for joy. Then leave it there.
