For families or just those of us with messy or tendencies, it can be a challenge to keep your space organized and looking its best each day. Make your home run a little more smoothly, with a closing shift routine at the end of the day.
Home Security and Maintenance
Many restaurants and business establishments have a closing shift routine at the end of the day that ensures that everything is in its place and secure. Your home should be no exception. Check doors and windows to ensure that they are closed. If you are entering into a cold season, this is also an excellent time to prep any faucets or spigots that could freeze overnight.
Tackle the Dishes
Whatever your daily dishes routine may be, your evening shift is your lost opportunity to ensure that the kitchen is ready for all of the next day in store. Whether you opt to put dishes in the dishwasher or wash them by hand, be sure that you have at least done this task, even if you opt to put away the dishes the next morning with your cup of coffee.
Wipe Up Countertops
No one wants a smelly kitchen to work in when they’re trying to make breakfast. Since the dishes are being tended to, take that same dish rag or sponge and opt to wash down countertops. This will keep sticky smelly messes at bay and give your morning self a gift in the form of a clean kitchen.
All-Hands Quick Tidy
Even kids can join in on the all-hands-on-deck quick tidy at the end of the day. Set a timer for 5-10 minutes. Keep it short. Quickly address any roaming items that need to be put away. Clear off coffee tables and entry tables. Straighten up items that do belong so they look nice. Remember, clutter results in more clutter. Aesthetically tidy stacks or arrangements don’t collect clutter the way an unkempt area will.
