After serving in the U.S. Navy, Jon Coile began his real estate career at the age of 30. He currently holds the position of CEO of the Champion family of companies, which includes brokerage, mortgage, title, insurance, and property management. Champion Realty is a HomeServices of America company and a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate. The company has seven offices and 200 agents working in four counties on both the eastern and western shores of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay.

Coile also serves as chairman of the board of BrightMLS. A recent merger brought together 43 local REALTOR® association shareholders, which required the company to combine the unique databases from nine MLS organizations operating on three separate front-end platforms into one system. Now that that has been accomplished and data associated with 90,000 agents have been brought into a single system, Coile and his team are looking forward to a bright future.

Coile believes that removing obstacles and working together can help real estate professionals succeed. “The national portals and new models coming into real estate don’t have the artificial borders that we’ve created for ourselves in the real estate industry,” says Coile. “We need to tear down these barriers and compete on an even playing field for the good of our sellers, our buyers, and our industry. MLS consolidation and cooperation needs to accelerate for us to remain relevant.”
