Ryan Coon is CEO and co-founder of Avail, an online platform for DIY landlords and their tenants. The Chicago-based company offers an end-to-end solution that helps independent landlords scale from beginner to professional with tools, support and education to make renting easy.
The company was started by part-time landlords who studied how large, institutional owners managed their properties, and the co-founders quickly realized independent landlords didn’t have access to the same suite of powerful and expensive tools that make property management easy for large owners. Avail’s online platform is designed to help independent landlords find tenants, view credit history, sign leases and collect rent on any device.
Over an 18-month period, Avail has increased revenue fourfold, as well as quadrupled the number of landlords and more than doubled the number of tenants using the online platform.
“As landlords ourselves, we understand the struggles that landlords face during the rental process,” says Coon. “Our tremendous growth is a testament to our dedication to providing a comprehensive solution that can help the 8-plus million independent landlords across the nation.”
Prior to co-founding Avail, Coon was an investment banking associate at BMO Capital Markets, where he advised financial services companies on mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets transactions. Coon earned Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting and finance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
