RISMEDIA, May 28, 2009-Success lies within each of us. It is very interesting to discover what it is that triggers that response within us that makes the shift in our thinking to allow us to succeed. I’m talking about that ‘aha’ moment, when all of a sudden, our goals and dreams seem to stand clearly and attainably in front of us.
I have adapted this piece from a story that I wrote in our blog because I wanted to share it with you as well. It’s about a good friend of mine, who went to a spa in Arizona and found a piece of herself that she never knew she had.
She went to this marvelous spa with her daughter where they could hike, meditate, relax and connect. It sounds like the perfect combination of the spiritual and the physical.
One of the things she did was climb a pole. They put her in a harness and she climbed using stepping rungs on a 25 foot pole. When she arrived at the last rung she was told that she should climb on to the top of the pole and stand up.
How do you possibly maneuver your body to climb up on such a small circumference with nothing to hold to hoist yourself up? It sounds impossible. How do you get one foot up and then balance at that height to place your other foot on top of such a small landing and stand?
She struggled. She was frustrated. She screamed that she couldn’t do this, that is was not possible, she cried. They kept encouraging her. And then she did the most remarkable thing.
She stopped. She focused her mind. She chanted an empowering phrase to herself, placed one foot on the circle, then the other, and then she stood straight and completed the pole.
She then allowed gravity to propel her body back to the ground. Invigorated. Inspired.
She had tapped into a source of power that lay deep within to overcome her challenge. For her it was her faith. What is it for you?
She overcame fear. That was her obstacle. She learned to trust herself and tap into an incredible source of power that was already within her. Now, she has opened herself to a world of opportunities. She has an underlying confidence that she can call upon to step into new situations and take risks and accept challenges. She will now approach a new task with a deeper understanding of her strengths and with the assurance that she can succeed.
I believe that we all have incredible strength which often remains dormant until we are challenged. And then, we uncover a piece of ourselves which allows us to soar and reach our ultimate success.
