RISMEDIA, June 27, 2007-New York and New Jersey residents favor funnel cake as their favorite fair food, according to a recent survey commissioned by State Fair Meadowlands. The poll was conductedin advance of the opening of State Fair Meadowlands, running June 21 through July 8 at Giants Stadium Fairgrounds in the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

The Public Opinion Research Inc. poll questioned 400 residents of NY and NJ about their favorite foods to eat when at a summer fair. Twenty-five percent of respondents named funnel cakes, while 23% answered hot dogs and 12% answered sausage and peppers.

“Summer fairs are all about indulging in special foods. Where else can you get a deep-fried Oreo, funnel cake, cotton candy and a corn dog all in one place? Part of the fun of a fair is in seeking out those special treats that bring out the kid in all of us,” says Al Dorso, president of State Fair Meadowlands.

Men and women had differing opinions on the yummiest food to munch. Thirty-two percent of women respondents favored funnel cake, while only 18% of men did. Men, however, were clearly the bigger hot dog fans: 30% of men favored hot dogs, while only 15% of women did.

“This year, State Fair Meadowlands fairgoers can also indulge in a variety of ethnic cuisines, including Italian, Greek, Polish, Latin American, Glatt Kosher and Asian,” adds Dorso.
