New Story Charity, a crowd-funding nonprofit whose mission is to provide safe homes for families living in the world’s most dangerous and poverty-stricken conditions, recently announced that it relies on DocuSign’s Digital Transaction Management (DTM) platform and integrated eSignature solution to eliminate the costs and inefficiencies of processing paperwork in the field. DocuSign for Nonprofits has helped New Story go fully digital so that 100 percent of donor dollars go towards making a positive difference in the world.
Co-founded by Michael Arrieta, DocuSign Chief of Staff to Chairman and CEO Keith Krach, New Story Charity began in 2014 after the founding team witnessed the widespread destruction of 2010’s earthquake in Haiti and the challenges faced by disaster relief organizations in quickly bringing safe housing to families in need. The team secured funding from Silicon Valley start-up incubator, Y-combinator, to launch a nonprofit model that puts 100 percent of donations towards good while delivering complete visibility to donors and volunteers on the positive impact of their contributions.
Using DocuSign’s DTM platform and offline signing capability, New Story replaced its process of manually filling out, scanning, and uploading documents with DocuSign’s fully digital solution. The move to DocuSign empowered volunteers in the field to sign, send, and complete transactions offline via mobile devices, guarantee security and compliance across processes, and more efficiently help families in need. Fueled by these efficiencies, the New Story team set out to build 100 homes in 100 days for struggling families in Haiti and was able to achieve its goal after just 91 days.
“DocuSign has made it possible for New Story to operate 100 percent digitally in the field – removing the hassles and costs that traditional charities take on with paper processes,” says Arrieta. “I’m grateful to work for an organization like DocuSign where the company culture is infused with a philanthropic ethos that allows employees to drive positive change in the world. With the launch of DocuSign Impact, I’m now able to use volunteer time off to fulfill my personal passion of bringing new homes to families in need so they can start their own new story.”
“We’re excited to bring the power of DocuSign to nonprofits through DocuSign Impact, transforming lives by transforming charities,” says DocuSign Impact Executive Director Amy Skeeters-Behrens. “Mike is a tremendous asset to DocuSign’s business, but as co-founder of a nonprofit like New Story, he sets a tremendous example of what it means to have a broader impact on the world around us. I’m proud of the employees across the DocuSign family who are working to enrich the communities around them.”
