A small plane crashed on Sunday afternoon in California, killing all five passengers—agents at Pacific Union International, Inc. and their family members, who were en route to a business-related event.
The victims were identified as Scott Shepherd, 53, the plane’s pilot and a real estate developer, and his wife Lara Shepherd, 42; two Diablo residents; Floria Hakimi, 62, from Danville, and her son Navid Hakimi, 32, from Los Angeles; and Nasim Ghanadan, 29, from Alamo, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Lara Shepherd
According to her Pacific Union bio, Shepherd was a REALTOR® and a third-generation real estate professional who joined Pacific Union following the Empire Realty Associates merger. Shepherd was a mother of two and played an active role in the community, volunteering for youth programs and helping with fundraising efforts.

Floria Hakimi

Nasim Ghanadan
Ghanadan was a real estate consultant with an educational background in Economics and International Relations, according to her bio. Ghanadan ran her business with the philosophy “Treat clients like family.”
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy,” Pacific Union CEO Mark McLaughlin said in a statement. “Our entire Pacific Union family is mourning the loss of our colleagues, family and friends.”
A few hours after takeoff from the Buchanan Field in Concord, the pilot of the Cessna 414 sent out a distress signal before crashing into a mall parking lot around 12:20 p.m. local time, 1.5 miles away from John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif. No one on the ground was injured, authorities report. The FAA is still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
