Kim’s Getting Married

RISMEDIA, May 7, 2009-Kim is getting married next week. Now if it were me, I would be busy with a gazillion little details. I would be in a constant state of busy. It would be as if white petals were falling around me and I was scooping them up to scatter down the aisle. You get the idea. Kim, on the other hand, is calm — no petals dancing around her, just a veil of calm. I am trying to get her to take a week off work before the wedding to go shopping, go to the spa and do the other stuff of brides to be. But, no, Kim’s pre-wedding tonic is work. Kim feels happiest when she is at the office and on the phone, talking to clients, networking and plotting and planning for the company. The wedding plans just got thrown in there and done somehow. Even the seating plan, the thing that most brides fret about for weeks, is done. Who is this woman?

The other day she walked in to my office and told me that her wedding dress hadn’t come in yet. She is calm. Too calm; is this the calm before the storm?

No. I think that she is just at peace. It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy of the good kind. A year ago, Kim dreamed of meeting a man and getting married. She talked about it, wrote about it, and then one day, out of the blue, she gets a phone call from this guy and that’s that. No dating drama, no wondering about intentions and all of that stuff, their lives just fell into place. Well, maybe there have been a few ups and downs, but, really, it has been pretty easy.

For her it’s like parking karma. You know, when you go to the mall or the restaurant and you jut know that there will be a parking spot, and as soon as you pull up, someone leaves. That’s parking karma. Kim has wedding karma. She just knows, that despite ex-husbands, ex-wives, a blending of five children, and a fledgling business, that it will all be okay. Is she delusional? No. She has just completely integrated all her frame of mind principles into her life, and is moving forward knowing that the universe is working in her favor. She understands profoundly that all is as it is meant to be and that everything will work out. So what is there to worry about!

The dress came in. The dress was not exactly what she expected. She left it behind. Bride without a dress! She remained calm, confident that the perfect dress would appear at the right time in the right place. I, on the other hand, scoured the internet looking for ready-made wedding gowns. She said that she would just go out and buy another dress. And she did!

Kim has a wedding dress. She will look beautiful. The flowers will fill the vases and the guests will dance and drink champagne and then she will go on a marvellous honeymoon. Frame of Mind is a way of life.
