RISMEDIA, Oct. 17, 2008-The “Roy Rogers Ranch” current owners announce the sale of the 67-acre newly refurbished and restored legendary Double R Bar Ranch.
The ranch is located in Oro Grande, CA, approximately ten miles northwest of Apple Valley, former hometown for the late Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, just off Historic Route 66 in the Mojave Desert alongside the Mojave River. Roy Rogers purchased the ranch in 1965, the same year that his beloved “smartest horse in the movies” Trigger, passed away. He and his wife, Dale, along with their family, moved here from Chatsworth, CA, to board and train his palomino and thoroughbred race horses.
Roy Rogers owned the ranch up to his death on July 6, 1998. Shortly thereafter, Roy Rogers Jr. (Dusty), trustee of the Roy Rogers estate, sold the ranch to a family friend, who envisioned a Roy Rogers-themed guest ranch. The plan fizzled. In 2002, Ernesto (Eric) Enriquez and his wife, Anne, purchased the ranch with a six-year comprehensive plan to restore and maintain the honor and integrity of Roy Rogers’ name and the beauty of this ranch he cherished.
The Double R Ranch features a landmark red barn that has been converted into a movie theatre and banquet facility with handicap men’s and women’s restrooms and a kitchen facility. Roy Rogers’ tool room remains untouched with all of his personal tools. The main house has four bedrooms and three baths which have also been completely remodeled. The museum building houses the ranch office with an extensive collection of personal items and memorabilia. The bunkhouse has two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and family room. The seventeen-horse stable and support buildings (utility, tool & equipment) have also all been extensively restored. There is a ½ mile training race track, irrigation lines, large cottonwood trees, covered round pen, and additional paddocks and pens to board and train over one hundred thirty horses. The property is on the market for $12.5 million.
Over the past six years, the ranch has held many Western-themed events, as featured on the Western Channel, including numerous Roy Rogers Ranch festivals to support the Happy Trails Children’s Foundation for the purpose of serving and rehabilitating severely abused boys.
Today, the Enriquez family has completed its ranch restoration plans and seeks to transfer the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans legacy through the continued preservation and restoration of the Roy Rogers’ Double R Bar Ranch.
