RISMedia Announces Keynote Speaker for 20th Annual Power Broker Dinner

Stein BenRISMedia has announced that humorist Ben Stein, the famous actor, economist, lawyer and author, will serve as the special guest speaker for its 20th Annual invitation-only Power Broker Dinner next month, taking place on Friday, Nov. 13 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel in San Diego, Calif.

Arguably the most famous economicsĀ teacher in America, Stein’s comedic role as the droning economics teacher in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” has been ranked as one of the fifty most famous scenes in movie history.

In real life, Stein is a powerful speaker on economics, politics, education, and history. Like his father, Herbert Stein, he is considered one of the great humorists on political economy.

Stein has a bachelor’s with honors in economics from Columbia, studied econ at the graduate level at Yale, and is a graduateĀ of Yale Law School (valedictorian of his class by election of his classmates in 1970).

Stein will draw from his extensive background to bring out the funniest and most powerful trends in current history to share with honored guests.

His background includes being a poverty lawyer for the poor in New Haven, a trade regulation lawyer for the FTC, a speech writer for both Presidents Nixon and Ford (He did NOT write the line, “I am not a crook….”), a columnist and an editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal,Ā and a teacher of law and economics at UC Santa Cruz (undergrad) and Pepperdine (law school and undergrads).

He has written or co-written roughly 30 books with his brilliant colleague Phil DeMuth. Most of these books concentrate on investing, and many have been New York Times bestsellers. Their book, Yes, You Can Time The Market, has become a landmark of using price theory for securities market analysis.

He wrote a column about economics for The New York Times for several years, roughly 2004-2009.

He co-hosted the show ā€œWin Ben Stein’s Moneyā€ with Jimmy Kimmel, which won seven Emmys, including best game show host. (Surely making him the only well-known economist to win an Emmy.) Presently, he writes a column for The American Spectator and for NewsMax, and is a regular commentator on Fox News and on CBS Sunday Morning, as well as a frequent commentator on CNN.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife of 45 years, Alexandra, two dogs and six cats.

Celebrating 20 Years

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, RISMedia’s Power Broker Forum and Power Broker Reception & Dinner will once again be held in conjunction with the annual REALTORSĀ® Conference and Expo, taking place this year in San Diego.

The Forum

On Friday, Nov. 13, from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m., RISMedia will host its popular educational session, The Power Broker Forum, featuring a candid discussion among some of the industry’s most successful brokers and executives. During this year’s Forum, ā€œBuilding a Sustainable Brokerage Business,ā€ brokers will share ways to rethink the real estate brokerage business in order to build long-term success that withstands market fluctuations. Co-moderated by RISMedia President & CEO John Featherston, and David Romero, President & CEO of Century 21 Award, the Power Broker Forum takes place at the San Diego Convention Center and is open to all full and day-conference attendees.

Speakers have been confirmed and will be announced soon.

Reception and Dinner

Later that evening, RISMedia will hold its exclusive gala honoring the nation’s Top 500 Brokers: The 20th Annual Power Broker Reception & Dinner. In addition to recognizing those brokers showcased in RISMedia’s 2015 Power Broker Report & Survey, the invitation-only event, sponsored by many industry-leading companies, including Platinum Sponsors Quicken Loans and Xome, will also recognize four individuals with esteemed awards: RISMedia’s National Homeownership Award; the ā€˜On the Shoulders of Giants’ Award, sponsored by RE/MAX; the Real Estate Leadership Award, sponsored by Buffini & Company; and the Tech Titan Award, sponsored by Homes.com.
